Here are some photos from Stuarts first mission to Germany. They got to stay an extra day so he was also able to do a little sightseeing!
Stu has been keeping a journal and he said I could share some excerpts here... This is from a few days ago
That afternoon we were alerted that a patient required transport
within Afghanistan from Jalalabad to Bagram. Emotions overcame me as we would
potentially be starting our mission off with a bang and moving patients.
Although it wasn't our team up, we had the option of going with the other team
as a training ride in order to help gain experience with the system. Around 4
PM local time we started getting everything ready in terms of drugs to take
with us and start formulating a plan for transport. Supposedly the individual
had a severe brain injury and needed neurosurgery intervention. As it was an
intratheater mission we went to the armory and gathered our weapons, a 9mm
Berreta Pistol. It is very strange carrying a firearm at all times on your hip
or around your shoulders. It does provide a sense of security around all the
local nationals on base but I fear shooting myself more than anything else.
After taking care of all the minor details, we found out that the patient was
being transported already by the Army Dustoff team, a helicopter evacuation
crew. In fact, while at the hospital for the second time, the patient arrived
in the ER and we were able to follow up on exactly what happened. As it turns
out, he would need transport with CCATT the next day.
I'm so glad that he was able to relax and enjoy himself a little this weekend =)
Here on the home front we had a play date today =) Through my good friend Kara, we were able to meet another military family who recently went through deployment. The kids had a good time!
We (Jackson and Hadley included!) were able to face time with Stu today. He heads back to Bagram tomorrow so who knows when we will see his pretty face again.
Please pray for a smooth trip back to Afghanistan for Stuart tomorrow.
